Hello,
Thank you for tuning in to read the blog about the fabulous world of learning taking place in 4/5/6A this year. Our new Inquiry unit centres around ‘Closing The Gap’. Our essential question is, “How can we work towards a more equitable world?”
We have had an investigation around the meaning of ‘equitable’ and the difference between that and ‘equality’. We think this cartoon is a great way to demonstrate it:
How would you use this image to explain it to someone who didn’t understand?
To help build on our existing knowledge of the topic, we are reading newspaper articles and watching clips to learn about the living conditions of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people and how it differs from our own. We have been discussing our own personal Needs and Wants, and compared how what we choose differs from our classmates’. Some topics we can’t decide if they are a Need or a Want; for example, medicine, or education. Some of us disagree. What do you think? We would love to hear your point of view. Please feel free to comment below.
Miss Watts and 4/5/6A
Miss Watts, I really loved the post , and I really love the background colour.
Thanks, Chosyn.
I liked what you did to your stuff miss
Ms.Watts, I really like the your blog especially the background colour.
Hello Ms Watts!
Your first blog post is an amazing start to a perfect blog!! It’s that amazing!!
Thanks for saying perfect, Emi, but I’m sure there is plenty of room for improvement!
I will use this image and explain to them that this is how WE can show everyone what is EQUITY mean, it’s mean is to be fair, like in the photo have show the three boys all have the same amount of a box, all of them all have it, but the other boy didn’t get to see but IF WE SHARE the box to the other boy he get to see like the other boys! I think it’s not about fair have to all have it but it mean it to get the things that WE NEED!
Great observation, Tran. I love that you realise equity is people have what they need, not about everyone getting the same.
This is great to show the difference between equity and equality Ms. Watts. I think that it’s also a great way to start of a blog. 🙂
Thanks, Gwen. I think it’s a great image to demonstrate the difference between the two words.
this is amazing every one will look at this and think how great we are .
This Is amazing every one will look at this how great we are
Ms.Watts
The cartoon is a great way to tell people what “equity” means and tell them what the difference is between equity and equitable!
WOW!! Miss Watts that is the best blog ever and it is a good way to start it and WE are showing PEOPLE around the WORLD what we have been learning and what shows equity is what we need to do things and equality is whats equal so on the photo it’s equal because all of them have 1 and the equity is what we need the little one needs two box, the medium one only needs 1 and the tall one doesn’t need any. 🙂
This post have a very strong and clear meaning of the word equality and equity. When the people in the world is having the same most of us are going to be happy but some won’t. But if the world is equity (fair) everyone will be happy!
I agree with you Esther
Ms watts I really liked your background and I think its really great you’ve done a great job I hope you do more blogs
